As “Data Scientist Food & Agribusiness” at RaboResearch you, together with 180 colleagues globally, generate data-driven insights, proprietary data sets and models, which are used by our F&A clients and the bank itself.

You and your job
As a “Data Scientist RaboResearch Food & Agribusiness”, you’ll work together with 23 other data scientists and over 180 researchers in RaboResearch, the bank’s highly valued knowledge centre. The models and insights generated are seen around the world as being ‘top notch’ and are crucial for the bank and clients to maintain and further develop their businesses.

Practical Examples

  • Develop, maintain and help improve unique data sets, models and tools (related to the F&A sector) to support stakeholders and clients. For example develop models to generate short- and long-term projections for different (F&A) sectors;
  • Cooperate closely with F&A experts and stakeholders to turn their knowledge and needs into data models, tools and insights;
  • Participate in modelling and data analytical initiatives;
  • Contribute to F&A research projects and publications together with F&A analysts;
  • Our insights are presented to our wholesale and rural clients (farmers), prospects, press and they are published via Rabobank Knowledge Hub.

Top 3 responsibilities

  • Work closely together with F&A analysts and translate (their) business/research questions to models, code and new insights;
  • Propose and define new research projects based on your knowledge of the business, available data and data science techniques;
  • Clearly define the objectives of your projects and the steps to take. Share the progress and project results with your main stakeholders (F&A analysts) on a regular basis.

The 23 people in the Data Science team of RaboResearch work closely together with their team colleagues as well as with the 80 Food & Agribusiness analysts, providing our clients with the newest sector insights, creating ‘order from chaos’.

You and your talent

Ideally, we are looking for an Agricultural or Applied Economist with Data Science skills – in practical terms, you've built maintainable analytical models in Python that have been used to look at topics at any stage along the value chain from production based ag to the consumer foods sector (farm to fork). Projects will include working on sector based models to cultivating proprietary data and tools.

The team practice is a hybrid between agile and consulting – a person who thrives will take complex problems, break them into parts and deliver the highest value-added first. Evaluation will be based on an interview, code sample, and a technical presentation.

  • A solid foundation of statistics, agricultural econometrics, and predictive modelling. (For example Master in F&A Economics);
  • Modelling experience in real-life business settings with traditional (structural/econometrics) and algorithmic (machine learning/Bayesian) approaches;
  • Experience in big data analytics, including working with SQL and Spark on an Azure based environment;
  • Strong hands-on programming skills (Python) and data engineering;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships within and outside RaboResearch and to communicate research results effectively to clients and (internal) stakeholders;
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in Dutch, Portuguese or Spanish is considered an advantage;
  • Self-starter, capable of running projects independently;
  • An enthusiastic team player, who is willing to embrace and share knowledge and expertise.

This is what we offer you

  • From € 4.068 up to 6.926 gross per month (scale 9-10), depending on seniority;
  • Thirteenth month's salary and 8% holiday allowance;
  • An extra budget of 11% of your gross salary to be used at your discretion. Buy extra holiday hours, add more to your pension savings or ask for part of the extra budget to be paid out;
  • A pension scheme to which you contribute 3.5%;
  • A combination of working from home and at the office;
